KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah government is pushing for a prompt resolution concerning the claim for 40 percent of the state’s net revenue, a matter that was brought up during the 2026 Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council Meeting (MTPMA63).
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor expressed that the state government is hopeful that the Federal government will give this claim the necessary attention to enable a faster resolution.
“For your information, on behalf of the Sabah state government, we have requested consideration, particularly regarding the resolution of the 40 percent payment to Sabah, which should also receive appropriate attention.
“Thus, we are optimistic that this can be resolved quickly. This is on behalf of the state of Sabah,” he stated at a press conference alongside Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after the meeting at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Friday.
In the meantime, Anwar, who also serves as the Minister of Finance, noted that discussions on this issue will proceed, taking into account the financial situation as detailed in the original agreement.
He also mentioned the interim special allocation of RM1.5 billion to Sabah for this year while discussions regarding the claim are still in progress.
