MATUNGGONG: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi voiced his hope that constituents in Kota Marudu and Kudat will come together with the blue coalition—commonly associated with Barisan Nasional—during the next general election.
“The blue wave will undoubtedly arrive, insya-Allah, in the coming polls. If the people of Kota Marudu and Kudat stand united with blue (BN), that would be truly encouraging,” he said, drawing loud cheers from thousands in attendance at the Dewan Pertubuhan Momogun Rungus Malaysia today.
Speaking at the launch of the Rungus Cultural Festival 2026, Zahid—who is also UMNO President and Chairman of Barisan Nasional—emphasized unity and shared political alignment.
The event, hosted by Pertubuhan Momogun Rungus Malaysia, was attended by its president and Kota Marudu MP, Datuk Wetrom Bahanda, as well as Kudat MP Dato’ Verdon Bahanda.
While highlighting strong personal ties with both MPs, Zahid stopped short of confirming whether the ‘blue wave’ specifically includes them.
“I’ve known these two leaders for many years. I believe they carry the same values, vision, and political colouring as I do,” he noted.
“They are part of the current government bloc in Parliament—not in opposition. This means the people here are in a fortunate position.
“Even if they run as independents or under other banners, their underlying commitment remains aligned with the ruling unity government,” he added.
Speaking to reporters later, Zahid expressed a positive outlook regarding the potential support from Wetrom and Verdon for the blue wave.
He mentioned that this was because both of these sibling leaders have indeed had ‘blue hearts from the beginning’.
As for the details, he entrusted the state BN chairman to negotiate them.
“So if this is decided, as the Chairman of BN at the national level, I will certainly validate it after it is presented at the BN supreme council meeting,” he stated.
