KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, president of Parti Warisan (Warisan), stated he accepts the court’s decision to sentence him to five weeks in jail for contempt, while confirming that his legal team has been directed to file an appeal.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Shafie emphasized his commitment to due process, noting he will refrain from further public comment as the case is now under review by the appellate court.
He affirmed that his responsibilities to the public remain unaffected by the ongoing legal matter.
Shafie stressed that the case was never personal, but centered on a young girl whose tragic death profoundly impacted the nation’s collective conscience.
His aim, he said, has consistently been to support truth, promote justice, and reinforce trust in Malaysia’s institutional framework.
He reiterated his dedication to fulfilling his role as an elected official with humility, integrity, and adherence to the rule of law.
