KOTA KINABALU: Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal has called for a detailed explanation regarding nearly RM70 million allocated for transportation and logistics services, including an additional RM4.5 million set aside for chartering flights for the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah (TYT) and the Chief Minister.
He pointed out that this translates to an average daily expenditure of almost RM190,000 when spread over a year.
“When you divide it across 365 days, we’re looking at nearly RM190,000 spent every single day from this budget,” he said.
“Who owns the company providing these services? Where exactly is this money going?
“This is a substantial sum—RM70 million in total. How frequently are helicopters or aircraft actually being used, and who controls the firms receiving these funds?” he questioned.
Shafie urged Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun to clarify the matter, stressing that such significant spending raises legitimate public concern.
He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in government expenditures to prevent misuse, while also ensuring attention remains focused on addressing core challenges facing Sabah’s people.
