One’s ancestral background does not define success—what truly matters is attitude, effort, and dedication, says Victor

TAMBUNAN: Although heritage may play a role in academic outcomes, Dato’ Victor Peter Paut, head of PGRS Tambunan, stressed that personal drive, perseverance, and commitment are ultimately what make the greatest difference.

He noted that aspirations for achievement will fall short without consistent hard work, disciplined study, and self-motivation.

“Events like this go beyond presenting certificates or awards,” he said in his speech at the 2025 Tambunan District SPM Excellent Student Appreciation Ceremony at the Tambunan Community Hall, here on Saturday.

“They represent acknowledgment of the dedication and excellence shown by Tambunan’s youth. Our goal is to reinforce the message that education is vital—it transforms lives, strengthens families, and advances communities.”

As a local leader, he views education as the most worthwhile investment.

“Buildings can be built and roads upgraded, but skilled, well-educated individuals are the true foundation for the district’s future,” he remarked.

“The students here tonight could become doctors, engineers, teachers, scientists, civil servants, business owners, or leaders.

Among you may be tomorrow’s State Assemblymen, Members of Parliament, district officers, or key figures guiding Tambunan and Sabah forward.”

For this reason, he urged young people not to believe that being from a rural area limits their potential.

He also expressed gratitude to parents, acknowledging that their children’s accomplishments reflect immense parental sacrifice.

“Many parents rise early to support their families, while others forgo comfort to ensure their children access quality education,” he said.

THE ORIGIN OF ONE’S ANCESTRY DOES NOT DETERMINE SUCCESS; RATHER, IT IS ATTITUDE, EFFORT, AND DEDICATION, SAID VICTOR

TAMBUNAN: While ancestry may influence academic success, it is ultimately attitude, effort, and strong commitment that matter most.

Dato’ Victor Peter Paut, the head of PGRS N39 Tambunan, stated that striving for success will not yield results without hard work, study, and high self-discipline.

“Events like this are not just about handing out certificates or awards.

More importantly, they symbolize recognition of the efforts and excellence of the children of Tambunan.

We want to send a clear message that education is the key to transforming lives, uplifting families, and developing communities,” he said while delivering a speech at the 2025 Tambunan District SPM Excellent Student Appreciation Ceremony at the Tambunan Community Hall on Saturday.

As a community leader in Tambunan, he believes that the best investment one can make is in education.

“Buildings can be constructed, roads can be improved, but quality human capital is the most valuable asset for the future of this district.

The children before me this evening are future doctors, engineers, teachers, scientists, government officials, entrepreneurs, and leaders.

Among you may be future members of the State Assembly, Members of Parliament, district officers, or leaders who will guide Tambunan and Sabah one day,” he said.

Therefore, he added, never feel that children from rural areas are limited in their dreams of success.

“Thanks also to the parents, as the achievements of the children today are the result of invaluable sacrifices made by parents.

Some wake up early to earn a living, while others sacrifice comfort to ensure their children receive the best education.
