KOTA KINABALU: Pas has delivered a major political surprise by announcing the immediate termination of its alliance with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), its coalition partner within Perikatan Nasional (PN).
As reported by Sinar Harian, the decision was made during a Special Meeting of the Pas Central Working Committee held today, convened to assess the party’s strategic path amid evolving political conditions.
Party President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang explained that the move followed a thorough review of the current state and future direction of the partnership with Bersatu, based on detailed reports, analyses, and recent evaluations.
He added that the committee also affirmed a prior resolution from the Ulama Council Meeting on June 2, which examined policy, legal, and public welfare considerations in light of the broader goal of ummah unity.
“With the suspension of cooperation with Bersatu, Pas will now pursue new avenues for political understanding and electoral coordination in the interest of ummah solidarity,” he said in a statement issued Monday night.
“This realignment is part of our preparation for upcoming state elections and the 16th General Election (PRU16).”
Abdul Hadi also noted that Pas remains open to individuals—including academics, professionals, political figures, and community leaders—who wish to contribute to the party’s mission.
.
The sudden break is expected to significantly reshape opposition politics, given that Pas and Bersatu have been central to the PN coalition since its formation in 2020.
