KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim affirmed that the Federal Government continues to acknowledge Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the legitimate Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
Speaking to reporters after Friday prayers at Masjid Meranti in Puchong, Anwar cautioned that any move to unseat a reigning monarch could have serious implications for national stability.
“The situation in Negeri Sembilan is understandably concerning, as the Royal Institution operates under established customs, protocols, and dignity. Challenging these norms sends a damaging signal,” he said.
He stressed the importance of respecting judicial decisions, noting that a court had already ruled today on the matter. While the federal government had offered guidance, he expressed concern that a proclamation proceeded at a hotel—a setting he believes undermines the dignity associated with royal installations.
Earlier today, reports emerged that Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar was proclaimed the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Besar during a short ceremony at a resort in Negeri Sembilan.
The event was conducted by Maarof Mat Rashad, Undang of Jelebu, acting on behalf of the Undang Yang Empat (the Four Chieftains).
This follows Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun’s announcement late last night that Tuanku Muhriz had approved the dissolution of the 36-seat State Legislative Assembly, clearing the way for a state election.
The political tension arose after 14 Barisan Nasional assemblymen withdrew support from Aminuddin, citing discontent over his handling of the royal dispute.
However, the Negeri Sembilan High Court intervened today, halting a planned Special Session of the Dewan Keadilan Undang (DKU) and upholding Raja Norazli Raja Nordin as its Secretary until legal matters are settled.
Judge Roz Mawar Rozain issued an interim injunction—filed by Raja Norazli and the DKU—to maintain the current administrative status. Senior counsel Steven Thiru, representing the plaintiffs, confirmed the court also barred any attempt to suspend, dismiss, or replace Raja Norazli during the ongoing proceedings.
