Optimistic perspective on the 6th Annual General Meeting for MCCC Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysia China Chamber of Commerce Sabah (MCCC Sabah) successfully conducted its 6th Annual General Meeting (2025–2028) today.

The event saw active involvement from council members, representatives from the Women Entrepreneurs Committee, board members of Koperasi Usahawan Utama Sabah Berhad, and general members.

A total of 35 participants attended, underscoring the organisation’s solid unity and collective engagement.

During the meeting, President Datuk Dexter Lau highlighted that the chamber had reached its “Million Revenue Fund” target, a milestone that strengthens its capacity to host larger events, improve services for members, and pursue broader international partnerships.

He added that despite raising the Life Membership fee to RM6,000, membership has continued to grow steadily—evidence of strong confidence and support from the business community toward MCCC Sabah.

Given this, he noted that the chamber will increasingly prioritize the quality of its members and their potential for business growth.

“When selecting and inviting participants for key high-level business events, criteria such as company scale and future prospects will be closely evaluated.

“This approach aims to enhance the chamber’s commercial value, strengthen its ability to integrate resources, expand international collaboration, and build a more impactful and valuable business network,” he said.

Dexter highlighted that over the past year, the chamber successfully hosted three family-style networking dinners, three Platinum Club afternoon tea gatherings, and an annual gala dinner under the theme “Classical Elegance · Radiant Night.”

These events not only deepened member relationships but also boosted the chamber’s brand visibility and internal cohesion.

Looking ahead, the chamber intends to hold the ‘Malaysia-China Enterprise Synergy Gala Dinner’ in China, ideally in southern China, in November of this year.

As one of its premier business networking initiatives, the event will bring together business leaders, investors, and industry experts from both countries through high-level dialogue, strategic connections, and resource sharing.

The goal is to deepen Malaysia-China business ties and generate more high-value opportunities in business matching, cross-border partnerships, and investment—fostering mutual growth and shared success.

Datuk Dexter also expressed his gratitude to all council members and members of the Women Entrepreneurs Committee for their trust, support, and collaboration throughout the year.

“It is through the combined dedication and selfless efforts of everyone that the chamber has been able to carry out its programs successfully and sustain consistent, active growth,” he said.

He encouraged all members to continue embracing unity, mutual support, and cooperation by actively engaging in chamber activities and initiatives.

By doing so, they can collectively strengthen the organization’s influence, improve member engagement, and open up new avenues for networking, collaboration, and development.

“I am confident that with continued teamwork, MCCC Sabah will reach new heights and play a greater role in advancing economic, cultural, and friendly relations between Sabah and China,” he added.

Meanwhile, in a virtual address, MCCC National President Loo Kok Seong commended the Sabah chapter for its longstanding contributions and development, which have earned broad recognition. He acknowledged past presidents for their strong leadership in guiding members’ business growth and consistently enhancing local business platforms and exchanges—laying a solid foundation for the chamber’s reputation and reach.

He pointed out that Sabah is rich in natural resources, tourism potential, and strategic geographic positioning, while Peninsular Malaysia benefits from a more developed industrial ecosystem and business network.

China, on the other hand, offers a massive market, advanced technology, and extensive industrial capacity.

By deepening trade and economic cooperation among the three regions and capitalizing on their complementary strengths, significant opportunities could emerge in areas such as trade, investment, tourism, agriculture, green economy, digital economy, and artificial intelligence.

The AGM was also attended by Honorary President Datuk Michael Chin and Honorary Advisor Michael Pan.
