KOTA KINABALU: Members of the Board of Directors of Koperasi Usahawan Utama Sabah Berhad, a cooperative established through the initiative of Malaysia China Chamber of Commerce Sabah, recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the “KTC Industrial Park” to gain deeper insight into KTC’s future development plans and long-term strategic direction.

The visit also provided an opportunity for the cooperative to exchange ideas, gain inspiration, and explore potential investment sectors and business opportunities that could support its future growth.

Its Chairman, Louis Su, said the visit by the board members was not only a gesture of support towards MCCC Sabah Honorary President and Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad (KTC) Managing Director Datuk Lau Kok Sing, MCCC Sabah President cum KTC Executive Director Datuk Dexter Lau, as well as the development of major local enterprises, but also an opportunity for the board to better understand KTC’s future potential as part of the cooperative’s ongoing evaluation of long-term investment opportunities.

He said the cooperative’s board has consistently adopted a prudent and long-term investment approach. Prior to making any investment decisions, the board conducts thorough assessments of a company’s business direction, financial strength, growth potential, and expected returns to ensure the cooperative’s funds generate stable and sustainable value.

“Through this visit, we hope to gain a more comprehensive understanding of KTC’s future development blueprint, including its industrial park, logistics ecosystem, regional expansion plans, and overall business model. At the same time, we also hope to broaden our perspective and draw inspiration from the strategies adopted by large corporations,” he said.

“We also want to explore which industries and business sectors may be suitable for the cooperative to venture into or invest in moving forward. Should these projects demonstrate strong long-term growth potential and attractive returns, the cooperative may consider exploring such investment opportunities further.”

According to Su, one of the cooperative’s key objectives is to strengthen its financial performance through stable and sustainable investment strategies, enabling it to deliver better dividend returns to investors and members while reinforcing its overall financial foundation.

“We hope that through long-term, stable, and high-potential investments, the cooperative will be able to generate sustainable income and create shared value for all investors.”

Meanwhile, Louis described the participation in KTC’s groundbreaking ceremony as a positive start for the cooperative’s board members, as it provided valuable exposure to the corporate investment environment while enhancing their understanding of industry trends, business evaluation, and strategic networking.

“This is a good beginning. Moving forward, the board will continue to actively participate in more corporate visits and business engagement activities so that members can become more familiar with market trends, investment strategies, and business operations, while identifying opportunities that align with the cooperative’s long-term development goals,” he added.

He further noted that with Sabah’s industrial, logistics, and regional trade sectors continuing to expand rapidly, the cooperative hopes to establish stronger connections with more scalable and high-potential companies to further broaden collaboration opportunities and drive the cooperative towards a more professional and diversified future.
