Salleh describes Akmal’s stance against the backdoor government as ‘correct’

KOTA KINABALU: Former UMNO Treasurer Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak has described the UMNO Youth Chief, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s, stand in rejecting the ‘backdoor’ government as a proper step.

He stated that UMNO should not be perceived as merely striving for power.

“The approach taken by Akmal can restore public trust,” he remarked in a Facebook post.

Yesterday, Akmal was quoted as affirming his stance against the formation of a government through the ‘backdoor’ method, even though Barisan Nasional currently holds a simple majority in Negeri Sembilan.

He indicated that UMNO has only two options: to be a dignified opposition or to dissolve the DUN to return the mandate to the people.

Salleh noted that this clear principle would strengthen the credibility and confidence of the public in the party.

The former Chief Minister of Sabah mentioned that the relationship between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan should be considered in such political situations.
