KOTA KINABALU: The DBKK team, composed of young players, has proven itself by emerging as the champion of the 9-a-side Open Football League Championship for the Kota Kinabalu area, Series 1-2026, held at the Kg Ganang field in Kepayan last Sunday.
DBKK defeated the MULUN FC team 1-0 in the final match of the tournament, organised by BMU FC, resulting in MULUN FC securing the runner-up title.
With this victory, the DBKK team took home a cash prize of RM2,000 and a trophy, while MULUN FC received RM1,000 in cash and medals.
The MKCO and BOSS Bundle teams each claimed third place in the 9-a-side tournament, which featured 24 teams.
Both third-place winners received cash prizes of RM400 and medals.
DBKK was also named the Best Team of the tournament, while the Best Goalkeeper award went to Amirjef Bin Anjam.
The Top Scorer title was awarded to DBKK player Yazili Yunat.
Over 500 people, including players and supporters, attended the tournament.
Meanwhile, the President of the BMU Kota Kinabalu Football Club, Ninewjo Newmond, expressed gratitude and pride for the positive response and the involvement of many players, especially from the Kota Kinabalu city area, in this tournament.
He stated that, similar to last year, the club is determined to organise the second series of the BMU League at the end of this year.
