KOTA KINABALU: Professional men’s singles player Lee Zii Jia has been selected for Malaysia’s team for the 2026 Thomas Cup finals, which will take place in Horsens, Denmark, from April 24 to May 3.
As reported by BERNAMA, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) announced today that the Olympic bronze medallist will lead the singles challenge alongside Leong Jun Hao, Justin Hoh, and Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin.
The addition of Zii Jia, who is 28 years old, is anticipated to bolster Malaysia’s efforts to reclaim the title they last held in 1992.
In the men’s doubles category, the challenge will be spearheaded by the world No. 2 duo Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, who will be joined by Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and the professional pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.
Malaysia has been placed in Group B, competing against Japan, England, and Finland.
In the Uber Cup finals, which will occur concurrently, Pearly Tan-M Thinaah will return as the key players in the women’s doubles, alongside the young pair Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting and Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah.
Pearly and Thinaah had opted out of the 2024 edition in Chengdu, China, to concentrate on their preparations for the Paris Olympics.
In the women’s singles, K Letshanaa will take the lead, supported by Wong Ling Ching, Siti Zulaikha Azmi, and Goh Jin Wei.
The women’s team has also been placed in Group B, alongside Japan, Turkey, and South Africa.
