A Request For A Stay: A Principled Approach to Safeguard Sabah’s Constitutional Rights – Salleh

KOTA KINABALU: The decision by Sabah to reject the request for a stay on the High Court’s ruling regarding the 40% revenue share is a correct and principled action, stated former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

He emphasised that this matter does not involve a confrontation with the Federal Government. Instead, it is about maintaining a constitutional right that is part of the original federal agreement established when Malaysia was created.

“The 40% entitlement is not a new request. It is already stipulated in the Federal Constitution as part of the special financial arrangement for Sabah.

“It is crucial to allow the court process to continue. The legal matters should be assessed and resolved based on their merits to ensure clarity and certainty,” he mentioned in his Facebook post.

Salleh pointed out that Sabah is merely pursuing what was promised and what is enshrined in the Constitution.

“Being resolute on this issue is about fairness, honoring the federal system, and securing a stronger future for Sabah and its citizens,” he added.
