TAMBUNAN: Unity among ethnic groups is the core essence and success of Sabah, said Dato’ Victor P. Paut, the Tambunan Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Chief.
He stressed that the current harmony among communities in the state should be preserved to ensure political stability, economic prosperity, and national security.
According to him, Sabah is indeed a unique state with over 32 ethnic and sub-ethnic groups living peacefully and harmoniously.
“Certainly, this is a result of the tolerance and mutual respect practiced by the diverse population, along with the rejection of extremism by all segments of society,” he remarked.
He made these comments after leading a Walkabout Program in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration at local business premises in Tambunan.
Victor also donated 200 chairs and tables, along with 100 food baskets to be distributed to the underprivileged and new converts at Masjid Nurul Iman Tambunan on Friday.
Prior to this, he provided a computer set to the Kampung Kaingaran church for its use.
Victor, who is also the Deputy Chairman of Sawit Kinabalu and Borneo Samudera, reminded the public not to be swayed by the rhetoric of purely racial political culture for the sake of gaining support.
“We hope that this unhealthy political culture does not infiltrate Sabah. Here in Sabah, we always prioritise unity and harmony among ethnic groups rather than playing the racial card,” he stated.
