KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sabah has arrested a civil servant from a state government department on suspicion of soliciting and accepting a bribe of approximately RM3,000 in return for awarding the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) housing project to a contracting company.
According to sources, the male suspect, who is in his 40s, was detained around 12:40 PM while he was giving a statement at the SPRM Sabah office.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect committed the act in 2024 by accepting a bribe of about RM3,000.
“It is suspected that the bribe was received in stages, with two online money transfer transactions made to his personal account and also to an account belonging to his child,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of SPRM Sabah, Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, confirmed the arrest when contacted and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the SPRM Act 2009.
