JAKARTA: A group of Malaysian journalists arrived here yesterday as part of a visit in conjunction with Indonesia’s National Press Day (HPN) celebration, which is being held in Serang City, Banten.
The celebration, which began a week ago, will reach its official highlight with a ceremony officiated by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at Hotel Aston Serang on Monday (9 February).
More than 1,500 journalists from across Indonesia have gathered in Serang City over the past few days.
HPN 2026 carries the theme “Healthy Press, Sovereign Economy, Strong Nation.” (Pers Sehat, Ekonomi Berdaulat, Bangsa Kuat).
The Malaysian journalists’ delegation, comprising 20 members, is led by the Acting President of the Malaysia–Indonesia Journalists Friendship Association (ISWAMI), Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman.
The Editor-in-Chief of Utusan Borneo Sabah, who is also an ISWAMI Malaysia Council Member, Datuk Lichong Angkui, is the sole representative from the state of Sabah.
Another ISWAMI Malaysia Council Member, Datuk Dr Jeniri Amir, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak, is leading a delegation of nine media organisations from the Land of the Hornbills.
In addition to attending the HPN 2026 celebration events, the ISWAMI Malaysia delegation will also host a luncheon and hold a dialogue session with their counterparts from Indonesia.
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching is scheduled to attend the event.
