Desa Group donates food supplies for the UMS Student Kitchen Program

KOTA KINABALU: Desa Group of Companies has provided food supplies for the Student Kitchen Program at Tun Fuad Residential College, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

The Chairman of Desa Group, Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah, stated that this initiative reflects the company’s concern for the welfare of underprivileged students, especially those from rural areas facing financial constraints.

“The Student Kitchen Program introduced by UMS is very beneficial. We hope that Desa Group’s contribution will help students access their daily food supplies more easily,” he said when met at the university’s residential college, near here, today.

According to Liew, students are also allowed to bring their own raw ingredients as additional side dishes if they can afford it or have specific needs.

“This step provides flexibility for students to adjust their meals according to their tastes and requirements,” he explained.

He added that collaboration between state GLCs and higher education institutions like UMS is an example of proactive efforts to support student welfare and strengthen the relationship between the corporate sector and education.

“As a state-owned company, we feel responsible for ensuring that underprivileged students are not left behind. “Programmes like this are the right platform for contribution,” he said.

The Student Kitchen Program has now become one of UMS’s main initiatives in providing daily food assistance to students in residential colleges, particularly for those from rural areas facing financial challenges.

Also present was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) of UMS, Prof. Dr Raman Noordin, to witness the official handover of the donation.
