KGKS welcomes the recruitment of 20,000 new teachers on a CoS basis

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Government Teachers’ Union (KGKS) believes that the recruitment of 20,000 Education Service Officers (PPP) Grade DG9 on a contract basis or Contract of Service (CoS) will help meet the demand for teachers due to the increase in students entering Year One starting next year.

In this regard, KGKS President Murkam Hj Hussien stated that the union supports the drastic move by the Ministry of Education (KPM), which he says reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the national education agenda.

“KGKS anticipates that following the government’s decision to allow six-year-old children to voluntarily enter Year One next year, the number of students will increase (six and seven-year-old children).

“To accommodate the increase in students, the number of teachers should also be increased… that is why KGKS fully supports this noble effort by KPM,” said Murkam in a statement today.

Yesterday, the Director-General of Education, Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad, announced that applications for the recruitment of 20,000 Education Service Officers (PPP) Grade DG9 on a contract basis or Contract of Service (CoS) will be open from March 2 to 20 to meet the needs of teachers nationwide.

Dr Mohd Azam was quoted as saying that the official announcement for the recruitment will be made on February 23, while the screening and interview process is scheduled from April 27 to May 14 in collaboration with the Education Service Commission.

He stated that this large-scale teacher recruitment initiative is part of the Ministry of Education’s (KPM) early preparations for the implementation of the Malaysia Education Plan (RPM) 2026-2035, in addition to supporting the voluntary entry of six-year-old children into Year One next year.

Murkam hopes that eligible local residents of Sabah can take advantage of this opportunity, thereby contributing to the success of the national education agenda.
