KOTA KINABALU: National women’s singles player K. Letshanaa achieved another remarkable victory at the Indonesia Masters today by defeating a higher-ranked rival, marking her first semi-final appearance in a World Tour Super 500 event.
Letshanaa, who is currently ranked world No. 42 triumphed over Taiwan’s 37th-ranked Huang Yu Hsun with scores of 21-17 and 21-18 in a quarter-final match that lasted 38 minutes at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta today.
She previously shocked Canada’s world No. 12 Michelle Li with a score of 21-14, 21-14 yesterday and had earlier won against Taiwan’s 34th-ranked Hsu Wen-chi, with scores of 9-21, 21-12, and 22-20 in the first round.
In tomorrow’s semi-final, Letshanaa will face Nguyen Thuy Linh from Vietnam.
This will be her inaugural semi-final appearance in the World Tour championships after reaching the quarter-final stage on three occasions.
