BEAUFORT: Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah, who is vocal about the concerns of erosion and flooding affecting the local community, especially in the low-lying areas of Lumadan nere here, is determined to raise these issues in Parliament on January 19.
He stated that these problems deserve priority as the Beaufort area, particularly in the Lumadan state constituency within the Sipitang parliamentary area, frequently experiences flooding.
Last year alone, Lumadan or Beaufort faced repeated flooding 12 times, Matbali said.
“In Lumadan, there are many issues we need to advocate for, especially the erosion occurring in low areas… this is causing anxiety and unrest among the residents here.
“Additionally, the issue of flood mitigation needs attention, and Inshallah, I will raise this matter during the parliamentary debate session on January 19,” he said.
Matbali made these remarks to reporters after completing a food basket distribution program in several villages within the Lumadan state constituency today.
The villages involved in the food basket distribution program include Kg Jabang, Kg Kukub, Kg Indulibai, and Kg Kangsa.
Also present at the event was Lumadan assemblyman Datuk Ruslan Muharam, who is also the Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industry of Sabah.
At the same time, Matbali mentioned that he would discuss with Ruslan to find the best solutions to address the issues related to flooding and erosion.
Meanwhile, Ruslan hopes that the food basket assistance will alleviate the burden of flood victims in the Lumadan area.
He stated that the food aid from the government, provided by the district office, will also be given to other flood victims in Lumadan.
Ruslan said this demonstrates the commitment and concern of the state government in caring for the welfare of the people, including the flood victims in Lumadan.
