MP Sipitang Matbali continues to fight for the welfare of residents in flood-prone areas

SIPITANG: Member of Parliament for Sipitang, Datuk Matbali Musah, urges the government to proceed with flood mitigation projects, especially in low-lying areas of the Lumadan state constituency in Beaufort.

He said the proposal for the flood control project, particularly the embankment along the Padas River in Beaufort, has already been submitted to the government.

“We hope this proposal will be considered by the government for the well-being and safety of the villagers in the area,” he said.

Matbali made these remarks during a recent meeting at the Anjung At-Taqwa Forum @ SabahFM held at the Imam Haji Awang Hashim Mosque, here.

Matbali, who is also the Chairman of the Malaysian Cocoa Board, emphasised that this step is crucial to reduce the risk of flooding, given that the Lumadan constituency is located near the Padas River.

“In addition to the town area, flood mitigation projects also need to be implemented in the villages near the Padas River, including areas identified as experiencing erosion, such as Kampung Tuhu Lupak,” he added.

Meanwhile, Matbali reminded residents to remain vigilant in case of flooding.
