The ruling by the Paris court marks a significant victory in safeguarding Malaysia’s strategic assets – Arthur

KOTA KINABALU – The Paris Court of Appeal’s decision to completely annul the Final Award regarding the claims made by those asserting to be heirs of the Sulu Sultanate represents a monumental triumph in defending the sovereignty of the nation and ensuring the security of Malaysia’s strategic assets.

Sook assemblyman Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, said that this success demonstrates the strong collaboration between the Sabah government and the Federal government, as well as the determination of the national legal team in protecting the state’s interests on the international stage.

“Malaysia has achieved a significant success internationally as the Paris Court of Appeal has fully annulled the final award in the case concerning the claims made by those who assert to be heirs of the Sulu Sultanate against Sabah.

“This decision not only defends the legal sovereignty of the nation but also protects the economic interests and strategic assets of Malaysia, particularly in Sabah. This success is the result of close cooperation and integrated efforts between the state government and the Federal government, along with a legal team that has acted decisively, professionally, and consistently at the international level,” he said.

Arthur (BN-Sook) made these remarks while debating the Sabah Supply Bill 2026 during the Sabah State Assembly (DUN) session here on Monday.

On December 9, the Paris Court of Appeal completely annulled the Final Award involving compensation worth US$14.9 billion.
