KOTA KINABALU: The President of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO), Datuk Ewon Benedick, has reaffirmed his commitment to advocate for the Sabah First agenda in the new Sabah Government Cabinet.
Ewon, who holds the position of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, and Transport, stated that the development of the entrepreneurship sector will be one of his main focuses to ensure that Sabah’s economy continues to grow and benefits the people.
“Entrepreneurship is a crucial driver for the economic development of Sabah. I will do my utmost to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to me,” he said.
He made these remarks when met by reporters after the swearing-in ceremony of the new Sabah Cabinet members before the Governor of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, at the Seri Kinabalu Palace today.
Ewon emphasised that as the President of UPKO, the Sabah First agenda will remain a priority for the party in the government, particularly concerning negotiations with the Federal Government regarding the demand for 40 percent of Sabah’s revenue.
“As the President of UPKO, I will continue to bring the Sabah First agenda into the Sabah Government Cabinet so that negotiations with the Federal Government regarding the demand for 40 percent of Sabah’s revenue and other matters become the priority of the government formed today,” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, for his confidence in UPKO to jointly lead the state Cabinet.
In the recent elections, Ewon successfully retained the Kadamaian State Assembly seat with 11,977 votes, defeating seven other candidates with a majority of 9,672 votes.
Since 2018, he has consistently earned the strong trust of the Kadamaian people due to his excellent track record and his advocacy for the needs of the people.
