SANDAKAN: The Vice President of the Sabah People’s Gagasan Party (Gagasan Rakyat), Datuk Masiung Banah, envisions a significant surprise in the Barisan Nasional (BN) strongholds of Lamaq and Sukau during this election (PRN-17).

Masiung, known for his slogan “Tatap Kalaga”, is optimistic that the wave of youth support for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) signals a new demand for political change in both areas.

He emphasises that the drastic rise of the people in Lamaq and Sukau during this election campaign, particularly among young voters, is an unexpected development.

He was met by the media shortly after campaigning to support GRS candidates Lamag, Juhainizamshah Johari, and Datuk Juhari Janan, who is also contesting under the GRS ticket in Sukau, on Sunday.

“This time in Lamag, we are trying to drive a new and faster vehicle, leaving behind the old, worn-out car that has suffered several damages. As for Sukau, we are confident there will be a surprise for the new while we rest the old leaders,” he said.

According to him, the winds of political change in Lamaq and Sukau show a convincing momentum.

He stated that the grassroots support led by the youth in these two areas has the potential to bring about positive change in Lamag and Sukau during this PRN-17.

Although he noted that the incumbent for DUN Lamag is represented by the Chief of Sabah UMNO, Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin, and the incumbent for Sukau is the Secretary of Sabah UMNO, he emphasised that in elections, victory is determined by the voters.

Masiung remarked that analysis on paper is not an accurate measure, but it is not impossible for the opposite to occur.
