KOTA KINABALU: The Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) has reiterated its stand to refrain from collaborating with any party or coalition in the upcoming 17th State Election (PRN17), which is set to take place soon.
This statement comes as the party continues to be associated with Warisan by certain factions, another local party that has announced its intention to operate independently in the forthcoming PRN17.
Its Secretary General, Willie Jude Junaidi, stated that it is illogical to connect KDM with Warisan since both parties will compete in numerous constituencies.
He said that rumours linking KDM with Warisan have been circulating for quite some time and have intensified following the dissolution of the State Assembly (DUN) as the election approaches.
“Perhaps they (the opposing parties) have run out of ideas, merely relying on ‘cybertroopers’ to associate us with other parties, claiming that our votes (KDM) could benefit them (Warisan).
“However, it is not surprising that they might feel threatened by KDM’s current strength, and naturally, they will seek any issues that could undermine us.
“I do not deny that the issues being raised have had some impact on us, as many leaders in the divisions have been enquiring about this matter.
*Therefore, today I want to firmly deny it; we are focused on facing PRN17 and will compete independently,” he stated when contacted today.
Willie made these remarks when asked to comment on allegations that KDM is secretly collaborating with Warisan, despite both parties having declared their intention to contest independently in the upcoming PRN17.
Meanwhile, Willie mentioned that the list of KDM candidates for the upcoming election is in its final stages.
He indicated that an announcement will be made soon after the final discussions are held by the KDM Supreme Leadership in the near future.
