Sabah UMNO remains committed to its principles, rejecting collaboration with GRS

KOTA KINABALU: The Secretary of Sabah UMNO and state assemblyman (ADUN) for Sukau, Datuk Jafry Ariffin, has affirmed that UMNO Sabah’s decision not to join the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is final.

He stated that this decision is not just a matter of political strategy, but also concerns the dignity and principles of the struggle that have long been the foundation of UMNO’s strength.

“All this time, UMNO has never relied on anyone to stand strong. The true strength of this party is all of you, the grassroots who are the heartbeat of the struggle,” he said in a statement via a post on his Facebook page.

Jafry urged all party members to unite, strengthen brotherhood, and return to the original spirit of UMNO’s struggle, which is sincerely dedicated to serving the people.

“Let us not be daunted by the winding road, for every challenge is not a burden but an opportunity for us to rise even stronger,” he explained.

He emphasised that UMNO has faced various tough tests, including enduring major storms and attempts to bring it down, yet this revered party remains steadfast due to the unwavering strength of its grassroots supporters.

“You are the backbone, you are the lifeblood of UMNO, you are the determinants of this party’s future,” he told the members of UMNO Sabah, whom he considers one big family.

Jafry also reminded that the decision not to join GRS should serve as a source of motivation and not a barrier in strengthening the resolve of the struggle.

“As long as there is life, UMNO will continue to defend the people, to be a shield for the race, religion, and beloved homeland,” he added.
