Urgent need to appoint a new contractor to complete the Tongod Sports Complex project – Willyfous

Tongod: There is an urgent need to appoint new contractors to complete the work of the Tongod Sports Complex, which was delayed in early August.

Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Chief of Kuamut Division, Willyfous Darinsok, said new contractors should be appointed immediately once the tender process is completed, as the contractual agreement has been terminated with the construction company.

The construction of the RM7 million sports complex, categorised by the ‘sick project’, has received serious attention from Kuamut Representative Datuk Masiung Banah, who was furious after finding that the contractor failed to complete the work on schedule.

“Masiung has taken a firm approach to seeking the state Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) to terminate an agreement on the company to allow new contractors to be appointed as a rescue.

“More than ten times I accompanied him to make a visit to the project site and warned the contractor, as his work progress was slow.

“Several vibrations have been given to the contractor, including four extensions of time (EOT), but the physical progress of the work is a bit disappointing,” Willlyfous explained.

He said the failure of the contractor to continue his work had led to various speculations and netizens’ bad allegations against the people of Kuamut.

Meanwhile, the opposition said he had taken the opportunity to use the issue to spread various wild slanders to Masiung.

Willlyfous, who is also a member of the Sabah Sports Board, said KBS accelerated the re-tender process of the sports complex, allowing it to be completed as soon as possible.

“We do not care about any allegations or slander; our duty in government leadership in Kuamut ensures that the Tongod Sports Complex is ready for the convenience of young people in the area,” he added.
