The majority of Kadamaian people want the appointment of JKKK to be done through a vote – Josely Taising

KOTA BELUD: Josely Taising, a potential candidate for the Kadamaian state constituency from the Democratic People’s Welfare Party (KDM), agrees with the majority of Kadamaian residents’ view that the appointment of the JKKK chairman should be conducted through a vote by the villagers themselves.

He said that this election process for the JKKK truly reflects the democratic principles practised in the country.

“It is time for reforms in the grassroots administration system, allowing villagers to choose their own JKKK members, thus promoting democratic practices,” he said in a recent social media post.

According to Josely, during his visits to several villages in the Kadamaian constituency, the issue of JKKK appointments frequently arises.

He noted that villagers perceive the current direct appointment of JKKK as a political gift to the supporters of the ruling party.

“Most of them said that elected representatives are chosen through voting, so why shouldn’t village representatives or JKKK also be elected by the villagers themselves?

“Changing the JKKK appointment system to be through a vote by the villagers is one of KDM’s focuses if given a mandate in the upcoming state election,” he stated.

In this regard, Josely said the state election is the best platform to express the people’s grievances, whether they support the current direct appointments of JKKK by the existing government or prefer them to be elected through a vote by the villagers, which KDM will advocate for.

The JKKK, among other roles, is responsible for reporting issues and complaints from villagers to the UPPM or District Officer, who will then report to higher authorities in the state government.
