KOTA KINABALU: The leadership of the Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) has named its Deputy President, Datuk Wetrom Bahanda, as the candidate for Chief Minister should the party succeed in forming a government in the upcoming 17th State Election (PRN17).
Acting President of KDM, Priscella Peter, said that this decision was made during a Supreme Leadership meeting at the party’s headquarters in Penampang on Monday.
“We are pleased to announce that the KDM Supreme Leadership has unanimously agreed on Datuk Wetrom as the Chief Minister candidate if the party successfully forms a government in PRN17.
“This proposal actually originated from KDM President, Datuk Peter Anthony himself, and today we discussed and reached a unanimous decision.
“Today’s meeting was conducted in a familial atmosphere, and I can say that KDM is ready to face PRN17,” she said in a statement.
Priscella also noted that the meeting discussed potential candidates and the constituencies they will contest.
She indicated that over 40 seats have been identified so far, along with the candidates who will be running.
“KDM will announce everything (the contested constituencies and candidates) when the time is right, likely after the Sabah State Assembly (DUN) is dissolved,” she added.
