PENAMPANG: A total of 12 contestants will vie for the title of Unduk Ngadau Divatto involving five villages, which is set to take place at the Togop Jetty near here on June 28.
The Chairperson of Unduk Ngadau, Susanna Mojiniu, said that all finalists represent the villages of Divan, Kg Totoikon, Kg Buzut, Kg Sava, and Kg Togop.
“The organisers hope that residents from the surrounding villages in Penampang, especially from the five Divatto villages, will come in large numbers to celebrate the Kaamatan festival,” she said in a statement promoting this year’s Kaamatan Divatto event.
According to Susanna, the Unduk Ngadau competition at the village level aims to commemorate the sacrifices of Huminodun, a significant figure in Kadazan-Dusun culture.
She mentioned that it also aims to promote and preserve cultural heritage, particularly in aspects of beauty, gentleness, and the wisdom of women.
Additionally, Susanna expressed hope that it would foster a spirit of unity and togetherness among the village community.
She noted that the Unduk Ngadau competition will also include the 𝗧𝗮𝘁𝗶 𝗸𝗮𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻 (Miss Favourite FB) category in conjunction with the Kaamatan festival of Kg Divatto.
Susanna mentioned that voting for the 𝗧𝗮𝘁𝗶 𝗸𝗮𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻 category will be conducted online starting from June 22 and will close on June 28 at around 3 PM.
Meanwhile, Susanna hopes that more individuals and private companies will come forward to contribute, including hampers, to support the Unduk Ngadau event.
