Dr. Gaim KDM supports netizens’ request for an alternative route – a ‘bailey bridge’, until the new Sungai Damit bridge is completed

TUARAN: The Vice President of the Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM), Gundohing Dr. Gaim James Lunkapis, expressed his support for netizens’ suggestion to either build an alternative vehicle route or maintain the old Sungai Damit bridge until the new one is finished.

He stated that this step is crucial to ensure the comfort of road users, who would otherwise have to detour from Tuaran town through Berungis and Tamparuli town to return to Tuaran.

“Of course this proposal may involve some additional costs… but it should be noted that the government must consider not only the safety of users but also the interests and comfort of road users.

“This is because many of them (users) travel daily from Tuaran town to the village of Sungai Damit via that bridge route.

“Therefore, KDM fully supports the construction of a bailey bridge for the benefit of all parties, while also ensuring that user safety is always prioritized,” he said in a statement today.

Previously, the Deputy Minister of Economy, Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib, announced that the bridge from Tuaran town to Sungai Damit would be demolished after a study found its structure to be unsafe for use.

Hanifah Hajar was quoted as saying that a new bridge would be built at the same location to replace the old one.

In response, netizens reacted in various ways, hoping that the old bridge would be maintained until the new one is completed.
