KOTA KINABALU: Sabah BERSATU has criticised the Madani government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for failing to take decisive political or legal action despite the corruption scandal in Sabah being exposed four months ago.
Sabah BERSATU deputy chief Muhammad Affan Jumahat emphasised that the lack of prompt legal proceedings against the involved ADUNs not only sends a misleading message to the public but also undermines the credibility of the government’s commitment to combating corruption.
According to him, corruption in Sabah might affect Malaysia’s position in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) for 2024.
“It remains unchanged at 57th out of 180 countries globally, maintaining a score of 50 out of 100,” he said in a statement here today.
He said that the ongoing corruption scandal related to mineral exploration licenses in Sabah, involving Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor and eight ADUNs from GRS coalition, which has been continuously exposed by a whistleblower on social media since November 2024, will significantly impact this year’s CPI.
“The admission of corrupt practices by the eight ADUNs has been revealed through HD video recordings and verified WhatsApp conversations, which were also reported by journalists on the MalaysiaKini portal and social media.
“This crisis represents the largest corruption scandal in Sabah’s history. I believe this scandal will adversely affect international assessments of Malaysia’s CPI this year,” he added
