UPKO President Datuk Ewon Benedick stressed that this decision reflects a spirit of tolerance towards the diversity of races and religions, as well as respect for the maturity of the Muslim community in the country.

Ewon, who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, confirmed that the Federal Cabinet discussed the issues arising from media reports about the proposed guidelines.

“The Prime Minister allowed cabinet members to express their views. I was among those who shared my perspective during the Cabinet meeting yesterday.

“In response, Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the MADANI government’s decision that there is no need to continue with the proposed guidelines. The government respects the maturity of Muslims in discerning what is appropriate when attending events organized by followers of other religions.

“The MADANI government also aims to strengthen religious tolerance and unity among the diverse population. The government welcomes dialogues promoting harmony, especially those organized by the Interfaith Harmony Committee under the Ministry of National Unity, to encourage more interactions between leaders and followers of various religions, thereby enhancing understanding and religious sensitivity.

“UPKO expresses gratitude to the Prime Minister for his continued commitment to leading this diverse nation based on the principles of tolerance and unity among the people.

“UPKO has fulfilled its responsibility as part of this decision.” Ewon added.
