Community-Engaged Heritage Walk: Connecting the Past to Present

SaNDAKAN: A total of 32 participants of the 4th Malaysian Environmental Education Conference explore the Sandakan Heritage Trail as part of their field trips of the conference.

Over 100 local and some foreign delegates are attending the conference at the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) from 14th to 16th October 24.

During the short briefing held at the MPS Meeting Hall, Lai King Hang, the Founder and Chairman of Sandakan Heritage Trail, emphasised the need for young people to learn and understand our local history to ensure the stories of the bygone era can be transmitted to the community and beyond.

Earlier during the welcoming address, Wilson Thomas, who is the Deputy President I of MPS, advised the participants to continue engaging the community on how they can help to protect our environment through education.

Also present guiding the walk are CK Teo, who is also the President of the Sandakan Tourism Association, Lily Aw and Catherin Chua, both senior team members of the Sandakan Heritage Trail voluntary group, and other volunteers.
