KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) should withdraw the demolition notice against landowners and heirs under the Sembulan Land Redevelopment Scheme.
In making the call, Jeffery Nor Mohamed, the Putatan UMNO chief, said that this matter should be resolved amicably with the residents of Kampung Sembulan Tengah regarding the proposed redevelopment scheme.
He stressed that Putatan UMNO does not oppose any development proposals in the residential areas of Kampung Sembulan.
“However, we also want to ensure that the progress of both Old and New Kampung Sembulan is maintained as a traditional village, especially within the city of Kota Kinabalu.
“This village has not just been established in the last 10 years; it has existed for hundreds of years,” he said at a press conference today.
Jeffery Nor urged the state government to reconsider this issue and foster good communication between both parties.
“Do not issue notices without establishing a communication network with the villagers, as this is very burdensome for them and needs to be resolved amicably.
“Therefore, this afternoon, we stand with the residents and the owners who received a 14-day notice regarding the demolition of their homes in Kampung Sembulan Tengah.
“We will not compromise on this notice and request that it be withdrawn until all procedures are resolved amicably with the villagers,” Jeffery Nor explained.
