TONGOD: Students in Tongod are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to further their education with the financial support from the Tongod Education Foundation (YPT), which is now available.
Kuamut assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah mentioned that since the launch of YPT earlier this year, no students have yet applied for the funding.
“This fund is open to outstanding students or those who are working and wish to pursue higher education abroad,” he stated at the event for delivering assistance to Form Six students and SPM achievers at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tongod yesterday.
A total of 27 students who completed their Form Six studies, including two top SPM students from last year, received cash contributions from Masiung.
The program was organised by the Education and Career Bureau of the Gagasan Rakyat Party in the Kuamut division, chaired by former educator Puan Jalilah Apiang.
In his speech at the event, Masiung said that students who finish Form Six automatically become role models for the community in social awareness.
He added that these former students should inspire change within their families and serve as idols for the younger generation.
“Before moving on to university or the workforce, successful students should embody the aspirations of the community.
As young people, you need to step up as heroes to uphold the dignity of Tongod, which is currently recognised as the poorest district in the country.”
The principal of SMK Tongod, Rasilan Rohny, and the President of the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), Lasjamin Unggat, also attended the event.
