An elderly person died after a vehicle crashed into the neighbour’s house fence

LAHAD DATU: An elderly person died when the car being driven skidded and crashed into the neighbour’s house fence in an incident in a residential area in Taman Gabungan, here on Sunday afternoon.

At around 1.30 pm, the victim, a 70-year-old woman believed to be driving a Perodua Viva, lost control of the vehicle, skidded, and crashed into the neighbour’s house fence.

The victim was confirmed dead at the scene.

According to Lahad Datu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Rohan Shah Ahmad, police investigations found that the cause of the accident was the negligence of the driver, who failed to control the vehicle and crashed into the gate of a house.

“Also hit was a vehicle parked in the housing area,” he said in a statement.

Rohan said that a blood sample from the driver was taken for analysis by the Department of Chemistry Malaysia in Kota Kinabalu.

“The victim’s body was then taken by a police team to Lahad Datu Hospital for a post-mortem investigation on Monday (April 1) to determine the actual cause of death.

“The investigation is ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

Rohan added that any individual who witnessed the incident can contact Traffic Investigator Officer, Inspector Mohamad Humaidi Harun, at 089-881255 extension 414 to assist in the investigation.

Therefore, he also advised road users to always comply with existing traffic laws and regulations, practice patience and caution while driving, and prioritise their safety and the safety of other road users.

“Meanwhile, elderly drivers are advised to always prioritize their own abilities and health levels while driving,” he added.
