TAWAU: The police have detained seven men and two women, suspected of being involved in cockfighting gambling activities in the Batu 5 area, Jalan Apas, Tawau, on Monday.
Tawau District Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin, said the raid was carried out by a team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) through ‘Operasi Limau’ at around 4 p.m. based on information and surveillance conducted.
“A total of three local men and one local woman aged between 24 and 56, as well as four foreign men aged in their 20s to 50s, were detained, along with a 44-year-old woman holding a temporary identification card (MyKAS).
“Further investigation revealed that two of the foreign men did not possess any valid travel documents, in addition to having no previous criminal records,” he said in a statement to the media today.
Jasmin said the police also seized a total of RM1,200 in cash believed to be used for gambling activities and six male chickens during the raid.
“All the suspects have been detained, while the seized items have been taken to the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action.
“This case is being investigated under Section 7(2) of the Open House Gambling Act 1953, Section 21 of the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” Jasmin explained.
He added that the police will not compromise with any individuals involved in criminal activities and will take appropriate legal action.
