KOTA KINABALU: The involvement of elected representatives in supporting activities carried out by schools is part of the commitment and shared responsibility to develop children’s education.
Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said through the involvement the additional needs and assistance needed by the school can be heard and then appropriate action taken.
He said that he himself has used the allocation of representatives of the people to solve some problems faced by schools while if it involves a large allocation it will be taken to the ministry level.
The Penampang Member of Parliament and Member of the State Assembly (ADUN) of Kadamaian reiterated his desire and commitment to continue helping schools in his area including providing special allocations for the Special Education Program for Integration (PPKI).
“Last year, we lowered a number of allocations to improve school facilities such as toilets, but it was not enough because of the many needs of the school.
“As the representative of the people of this area, I am responsible for facilitating or finding solutions to the problems faced by the school, either using the provisions of the people’s representatives or raising the need to the level of the relevant ministry,” he said.
He said this when he was met after completing the Year 6 Appreciation Ceremony and PPKI SK Luyang, at the Sabah State Culture and Arts Department (JKKN) Complex Auditorium, here, today.
Ewon said that the needs of students with special needs in some schools in the Penampang and Kadamaian areas will also be given due attention.
“I am aware of the primary and secondary schools in the Penampang Parliamentary area and the Kadamaian area, my commitment is to provide a number of allocations to help the special education teaching needs in these schools.
“Last year, I channeled allocations through agencies under my ministry to all primary schools and the areas I represent, namely Penampang and Kadamaian, but it was not enough because of the many school needs,” he said.
At the ceremony, Ewon presented graduation certificates to 95 Sixth Year students and 9 Special Education Program students.
