KOTA KINABALU: UMNO veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah admitted that it is not easy to “overcome” Perikatan Nasional (PN), especially PAS, which is in power in three states in the peninsula, as evidenced by the recent state elections.
I conclude that the three states are indeed controlled by PN, especially PAS.
Actually, PAS is in power in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah. PAS has a foothold in these states. There is no way we can overcome it,” he said when interviewed by The Malaysian Insight.
Razaleigh was asked to comment on Barisan Nasional’s (BN) failure to capture the three states in the recent state elections.
According to him, BN, especially UMNO, has used quite effective strategies.
“But there is a situation in UMNO itself that cannot be accepted by the people. That is what is causing us problems.
“However, I do not mean that the President of UMNO has to resign… I say that because even within UMNO, they are not adapting themselves.
“As president, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamid is responsible, but others also need to be responsible. This is not the work of one human being.
“This work (the campaign) must have the support of those who are called leaders. It must bear joint responsibility.
“This is because the responsibility cannot be shouldered by one person alone, so if a party loses, like in the recent elections, this means that all levels of leadership have failed; if we insist that only one leader resign, I think it’s unfair,” he said.
