KOTA KINABALU: Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) president Datuk Peter Anthony has called on the state government to look into a land application by a group of residents in Nabawan.
He said the government and relevant departments should give fair consideration to the applications of the residents concerned without giving preference to individuals or groups.
He said the willingness of about 100 Nabawan residents to travel long distances to gather in front of the Keningau Land and Survey Department (JTU) office under the scorching sun indicated the seriousness of the matter in question.
“Despite the sweltering heat, they are ready to drive from Nabawan to Keningau. With so many people attending, I think the problem is serious… Some are wearing traditional costumes, some are playing traditional musical instruments.
“I don’t want to take sides, but we all know that this land issue is very sensitive,” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Peter, who is also Melalap assemblyman, suggested that a dialogue session between the government and the villagers be held to find an amicable solution.
