KOTA KINABALU: All the 250 hawkers stalls allocated for the coming Gaya Street Chinese New Year Carnival, which is being jointly organized by the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), have been fully booked by the traders, said Tan Sri T.C Goh, President of FCAS.
While thanking the local business community for their overwhelming support to the event, he also extended his apology, on behalf of FCAS, to those traders who didn’t manage to secure any stall, due to late registration.
He acknowledged that the overwhelming support of the local business community to the street carnival would give the Chinese New Year atmosphere a good boost.
He noted that, the four-day long Chinese New Year Carnival will be held at Dataran Deasoka here, from 15 to 18 January, 2023 to usher in the Year of the Rabbit. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor will be officiating at the lighting ceremony. The Chinese Consul General in Kota Kinabalu, Huang Shifang too has agreed to grace the event, as the Special Guest.
Meanwhile, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Industrial Development Datuk Dr. Joachim Gunsalam will be officiating at the closing ceremony.
In a statement issued today, Goh also thanked the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City Hall, Datuk Norliza Awang Alip and her office, for the full support and cooperation to FCAS, in making the organising of the said event a smooth one.
Meanwhile, its Organising Chairman Kapitan Fung Chun Fatt, who is also Vice President of FCAS, disclosed that to further boost the Chinese New Year atmosphere of the carnival, the Organisers have lined up five categories of talent contests, which include Wushu performance, singing, talent performance, children Chinese New Year songs, and Chinese New Year fashion show, with cash reward totalling at RM27,000.
