KENINGAU: Former Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Sook during the Sabah last election has joined Homeland Solidarity Party (STAR) today.
The former candidate, Bonepes Been announced his departure from Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), one of BN’s component party, with immediate effect.
Nearly 500 PBRS members also quit the party together with Bonepes.
He submitted the membership forms to Star Deputy President who is also Sabah’s Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin in a ceremony with the people at his residence at Kampung Biah Tengah, near here.
Also present was Vice Wiramuda Chief for Star Sabah, Jordan Jude Ellron.
Speaking at the event, Bonepes said that the decision to depart from the party is due to loss of faith towards the PBRS leadership.
“I announce my exit from PBRS with immediate effect and I join Star,” he said.
His decision was lauded by Ellron who is also Sook’s State Legislative Assembly member.
Ellron said that he hoped for more members at Sook, particularly those with the opposition, would join Star and strengthen the hold of the party in Sabah.
During the 15th General Election, Bonepes attained 1,535 votes in the four-cornered fight.
