KOTA KINABALU: Tan Sri T.C Goh, President of the Sabah Shooting Association (SSA) has encouraged youths in the state to take up shooting sports.
He said, shooting sports is an excellent type of sports for character building and, it could help mould a person to become a positive and dynamic person.
“A consistent and professional training in the shooting sports, over the time, could also help boost a person’s focus, willpower, and self confidence,” he said.
Goh who is also President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) and the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) said this while giving a pep talk to the contingent of SSA junior shooters who are participating in the “Selangor Shooting Championship 2022 & Sport Excel/NSC/MILO/NSAM 1st Malaysia Junior Shooting Championship”, before sending them off to Selangor, at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), recently.
Also present at the airport to send off the contingent were Ms. Fathin Faqihah Mohd Yusof, the Representative of Sabah Sports Council (SSC), SSA Vice President Yong Yit Fui, and parents of the SSA junior shooters.
The five junior shooters were Crystal Leyrra Marcellus (age 16), Larissa Regina John Tillon (age 17), Briana June Daya (age 16), Nurhafizah Binti Didin (age19) and Amber Weysha Walter John, age 15, who is the youngest among them. Marcellus will be participating in the Women Air Pistol event, while the rest of them will be competing in the Women Air Rifle event. They were accompanied by their head coach, Denis Ejoh @ Ajoh and the assistant coach Dg. Siti Nasira.
The said shooting championship is currently being held at Lapang Sasar Menembak Kebangsaan Malaysia, Selangor, Malaysia from 22 – 27 March 2022.
This was also the first official event participated in by the new Sabah Shooting Association (SSA) after its formation on the 26th December 2021.
Goh who is also a member of the Sabah Economic Advisory Council (SEAC) underscored that SSA is committed to its long-term aim of nurturing and training Sabah youths in the shooting sports, and he hoped such an endeavor would receive strong support from the state government, and all levels of the Sabah society.
“We hope that with strong support from all quarters, we would be able to produce some outstanding athletes for Sabah in the shooting sports, in future,” he said.
