Majority of Pulau Gaya residents are locals, not PTI, says Jeffery Nor

KOTA KINABALU: Putatan UMNO Chief Jeffery Nor Mohamed asserted that the unfavourable view on social media suggesting that the majority of Pulau Gaya residents are illegal immigrants (PTI) is inaccurate.

He asserted that this portrayal is inaccurate, as records indicate that the majority of the residents there possess valid citizenship documents.

*Recently, many have expressed negative views about the village of Pulau Gaya… for your information, the majority of the residents in Pulau Gaya are locals and hold valid documents as citizens of this country,” he said in his latest social media post.

However, Jeffery acknowledged that there are residents without documentation, similar to other areas, but according to statistics, the majority of Pulau Gaya’s population has valid citizenship documents.

“Sabah is indeed known for its diverse ethnic groups… some ethnic groups live by the sea while others reside in the hills, and these differences in ethnicity also reflect the variations in settlement patterns in Sabah.

“It is undeniable that there are still undocumented settlements in Pulau Gaya, just like several other villages in Pulau Gaya that have been gazetted as villages, which certainly requires immediate action from DBKK and the state government,” he stated.

Jeffery added: “The issue of waste is somewhat subjective, as many land settlements also struggle with uncontrolled waste management.”

“Therefore, specific approaches need to be implemented promptly according to the suitability of the settlements,” he said.

He noted that, in principle, “we agree that appropriate actions should be taken against those without any personal documents, and this must be enforced throughout the state of Sabah.”
