Is Peter Anthony on parole?

KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah Minister of Infrastructure Development, Datuk Peter Anthony, has reportedly been released on parole from Kajang Prison, but there has been no official confirmation from the authorities regarding this matter.

According to a report by Daily Express, he is believed to have returned to Sabah on March 13 after serving part of the prison sentence previously imposed on him.

However, attempts to obtain feedback from the Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) have been unsuccessful as several of its leaders declined to comment, reportedly on the advice not to make any statements.

Other sources have indicated that Peter was seen with his daughter, Priscella Peter, at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), further supporting claims that he has indeed returned to the state on that date.

In March 2025, Peter was sentenced to three years in prison and fined RM50,000 after being found guilty of falsifying documents related to maintenance and service contracts at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

The offense involved the forgery of a support letter to assist his company in securing the contract in 2014, approximately ten years prior to his sentencing last year.

At the time of his sentencing, he was the Member of the State Assembly (ADUN) for Melalap, but no by-election was held as the term of the State Assembly was nearing its end.

As of now, the actual status of his parole release has yet to be officially confirmed by the relevant authorities.
