Hot Weather – Special Permission for Students & Teachers to Wear Sports Attire

PUTRAJAYA: Educational institutions should consider granting special permission for students, teachers, and implementation team members to wear appropriate sports attire during hot weather.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) stated that this measure is based on the needs and current situations at their respective institutions.

The ministry emphasized that all educational institutions under MOE must be aware of the current hot weather phenomenon in their areas and adhere to the established guidelines.

“MOE is concerned about the health, safety, and well-being of all individuals involved,” it said in a statement on Wednesday.

MOE urged all educational institutions to enhance their preparations and implement measures to cope with the hot weather when schools reopen after the First Term Break.

Among the measures are postponing outdoor activities if temperatures exceed 35 degrees Celsius and monitoring activities that may expose students to hot weather conditions.

Additionally, educational institutions must ensure a sufficient supply of clean drinking water and encourage students to bring their own drinking water.

“In critical situations where there are no other sources for drinking water, educational institutions must also provide drinking water to boarding students,” explained MOE.

The ongoing hot weather phenomenon in the country is expected to persist until the onset of the Southwest Monsoon (SWM) in June, following a drier atmosphere and low rainfall distribution.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), the country is currently in the final phase of the Northeast Monsoon (NEM), which is typically characterized by reduced rainfall and hotter, drier weather, especially in the northern and interior regions of the Peninsula.

Northern regions of the Peninsula, such as Kedah, including Pendang, Baling, and Padang Terap, are more susceptible to hot weather due to geographical factors.
