KOTA KINABALU: A total of 112 undocumented migrants were sent back to their respective countries through Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) from January to February this year.
The Director of the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) Sabah, Datuk SH Sitti Saleha Habib Yusoff, stated that all detainees underwent legal processes before their travel documents were validated by their respective embassies.
He noted that out of this number, 90 were adult males while 22 were adult females.
“In terms of nationality breakdown, Pakistan recorded the highest percentage at 51%, followed by the Philippines (29%), Vietnam (9%), China (5%), and Thailand (3%).
“The remaining one percent involved nationals from Laos, the United States, and Indonesia,” he said in a statement on Friday.
He emphasised that the repatriation operation is a continuous effort to ensure that immigration law enforcement is carried out transparently and systematically in the state.
Meanwhile, JIM Sabah urges the public not to harbor or employ undocumented migrants and to report information through the department’s official complaint channels.
