Flooding in Tambunan

TAMBUNAN: Continuous heavy rain since 8 PM last night has caused river levels in several areas of Tambunan to rise to dangerous levels, resulting in the main road in Kampung Sunsuron being impassable.

The Tambunan District Operations Control Center (PKOD) received reports from the public around 10:25 PM indicating that the Main Road Molout Sunsuron was flooded due to a sudden rise in river levels.

Members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in the Tambunan district were then dispatched to the site for monitoring and assessment.

Surveys found that the river water level was at a dangerous level and unsafe for all types of vehicles. The public in the area was also advised to remain cautious.

At 11:58 PM, members also monitored Kampung Kinabaan. Inspections revealed that about 15 houses were affected by flooding, with water levels exceeding knee height.

However, the situation was reported to be under control, and water levels were showing a downward trend.

The latest readings show that the Molout River level is at 566.21 meters, which is at a dangerous level. The Pegalan Molout River also recorded the same reading, indicating that water levels remain in the danger category.

Several routes have been identified as flooded, including Kampung Kinabaan Road, St Martin Main Road, and Karanaan Main Road.

So far, no temporary evacuation centers (PPS) have been opened, and no victims have been displaced.

Monitoring operations involve one officer and four APM members with the assistance of a four-wheel drive vehicle. Also assisting are three members of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) with one fire engine.

Authorities have stated that monitoring will continue periodically due to the ongoing rainy weather.
