KOTA KINABALU: Sipitang Member of Parliament Datuk Matbali Musah has appealed to the government to urgently upgrade the 140-kilometre road connecting Sipitang town to Long Pasia.
He emphasised that this initiative is crucial, as the road serves as the main artery to the interior regions of Sipitang.
Additionally, Matbali called on the government to construct a higher concrete bridge, particularly over the river route at Meligan.
“The crossing over the Meligan River in the Sipitang constituency is extremely critical and needs immediate attention from the government.
“During the rainy season, residents here face the same anxiety—whether their lifeline will remain passable or be engulfed by the raging floodwaters.
“The main bridge in this village, although built from seemingly sturdy concrete, is in reality too low, as if it submits to the fury of nature during disasters. Each time the rain pours relentlessly, the river’s water level rises, completely submerging this bridge,” he stated.
Matbali made these remarks while debating the Royal Address during a recent session of the Parliament in the Federal capital.
Regarding the hybrid solar project in Long Pasia, which remains stalled, he mentioned that the promised hybrid solar initiative should have brought a new light to the daily lives of the local community, illuminating homes, boosting the economy, and paving the way for progress.
“Unfortunately, the promised light has dimmed, leaving the people in darkness,” he said.
In this regard, Matbali hopes the government will seriously address the issues faced by the people, especially the basic facilities in the Long Pasia area.
